Characterization of Glycosphingolipids in the Human Parathyroid and Thyroid Glands

چکیده

As part of a systematic investigation the glycosphingolipids in human tissues, acid and non-acid from thyroid parathyroid glands were isolated characterized with mass spectrometry binding carbohydrate-recognizing ligands, focus on complex compounds. The glycosphingolipid patterns very similar. major sulfatide gangliosides GM3, GD3, GD1a, GD1b, GT1b Neu5Ac-neolactotetraosylceramide, globotriaosylceramide globoside. We also found neolactotetra- neolactohexaosylceramide, x2 glycosphingolipid, terminal blood group O A determinants both tissues. Leb determinant was identified gland, sample had B determinant. Immunohistochemistry demonstrated expression antigens glands. weak cytoplasmatic GD1a ganglioside present thyroid, while gland strong cell surface. Thus, glycosylation is more than previously appreciated. Our findings provide platform for further studies alterations surface cancers.

Thyroid and Parathyroid Glands

Demographics Diseases of the thyroid gland were demonstrated to occur in 3.7% of 4,819 school-aged children at initial examination in the United States; in a followup examination 20 years later, the prevalence had increased to 10.5%.1 About half of these are diffuse gland hypertrophy or simple goiter. Thyroiditis was the second most common abnormality, followed by thyroid nodules and functional...

The Antagonism between Thyroid and Parathyroid Glands

From the facts stated in this paper it is evident that the thymus gland of mammals contains a substance which is capable of producing tetany when fed to the larvae of certain species of salamanders (Ambystoma opacum and Ambystoma maculatum). As long as the larvae have not developed their own thymus glands, they are able, by means of some mechanism, to counterbalance the tetanic action of the th...

Multimodality imaging of the thyroid and parathyroid glands.

Nuclear imaging of the thyroid and parathyroid glands has evolved from early radionuclide rectilinear thyroid scanning to the recently developed dual isotope subtraction technique for detecting parathyroid lesions. At the same time, x-ray fluorescent scanning, ultrasound, x-ray computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging have improved identification of these endocrine organs. The approp...

Surgical anatomy of the thyroid and parathyroid glands.

From a surgical viewpoint there are several critical anatomic structures that lie in close proximity to the thyroid gland. These critical structures include the recurrent laryngeal nerves, the superior laryngeal nerves, and the parathyroid glands. Successful thyroid surgery depends on the technical skill of the surgeon to identify and preserve these vital structures.
